LOS ANGELES – The 2020 NWSL Draft was held in Baltimore today and two Trojans, Natalie Jacobs and Julia Bingham, were selected.
The two were taken within two picks of each other during the second round of the draft, with Jacobs going to the Washington Spirit at No. 13 and Bingham going to the Chicago Red Stars with the 15th pick. The two Trojan draft selections gives USC multiple players selected in three of the last four NWSL drafts.
Jacobs played two seasons for USC after transferring from Notre Dame prior to the 2018 season. During her two years in Troy, Jacobs appeared in 45 games and helped lead the Trojans to Sweet 16 and Elite 8 runs the last two seasons. She displayed her versatility playing multiple positions for USC, including mainly as a forward in 2018 and in the midfield during the 2019 season, while also serving as a central defender for the U.S. U-20 Women's National Team in 2016.
This past year she led the Trojans and finished fifth in the Pac-12 with nine assists, while also scoring four goals and finishing with the third most points (17) on the club. Jacobs scored five goals and notched two assists in 2018, and, including her time at Notre Dame, posted a total of 26 goals and 23 assists for her career. Always durable, Jacobs never missed a game during her collegiate tenure.
Bingham joins former Trojan great Katie Johnson on last year's NWSL runners-up the Chicago Red Stars. The recently graduated left back played all four years at USC, helping the team to a 2016 National Title and four straight postseason appearances. She played 89 games during her tenure, starting a total of 85 while recording 10 assists and one goal from the backline.
Bingham earned All-Pac-12 honors twice, including a second-team nod in 2018 and a third-team honor this past year. She was also named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman team in 2016. Bingham started all 23 games this past season during USC's run into the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, helping to anchor a defense that posted nine shutouts and a 1.15 goals against average.
