Trojan junior captures title with birdie on first playoff hole.

Trojan junior Alyaa Abdulghany used a birdie on 18 to force a playoff and then birdied the first extra hole to win the Australian Master of the Amateurs Championship on Friday (Jan. 10) in Victoria, Australia.

Abdulghany, the top-ranked Malaysian amateur in the world, finished in a three-way tie for first at 2-under 286 (72-70-71-73). She tapped in a three-footer on 18 – her third birdie on the hole of the tournament -- to join the three-woman playoff and then birdied the first playoff hole after reaching the par 5 in two.

Junior teammate Amelia Garvey, the top ranked amateur from New Zealand, tied for 20^th at 11-over 299 (78-76-70-75).

The All-American Abdulghany finished USC's fall schedule with a 72.44 stroke average and three top 29 results, including a season-best tie for eighth at the Stanford Intercollegiate at 2-under 211.
