Weber Leads Trojans At The Master's XC Invitational

Senior Kamryn Weber ran a 5K personal best to lead the USC cross country team to a fourth-place finish among Division I schools at the 2019 Master's University XC Invitational (5K) in Santa Clarita, Calif. today (Sept. 28).
"I thought Kamryn Weber did a real good job, she had like a 30-second PR from last year here," said USC cross country coach Patrick Henner. "If we can get a good pack right where she is with Alyssa Brewer, Chloe Berry and then get Jemima (Russell) pretty close to that group, then we will really be starting to make some progress. I think that is the strategy we have to take, having a good pack right around where Kam is running and then another pack not too far back."
Weber, who has been USC's top finisher at both meets this season, finished 17th overall with her PR of 18:33.1. Her time was nearly 30 seconds better than her previous 5K best which she ran at the 2018 Master's XC Invitational.
USC's second finisher was sophomore Alyssa Brewer who had a time of 18:55.8 to finish 39th overall. Brewer had nearly an identical time on the same course last season when she ran 18:55.7, which is her collegiate best.
Senior Chloe Berry placed 53rd overall with a time of 19:06.0. That time was 15 seconds faster than she ran on this course a year ago. Sophomore Jemima Russell had a time of 19:18.0 to finish 70th overall. It was her first 5K cross country race as a Trojan. Sophomore Brynn Sauer was the Trojans' final scoring runner and she placed 135th with a 5K PR of 20.10.7.
Also running today were freshman Brooke Rodi (20:17.5, 143rd), junior Sydney Tullai (20.29.1, 152nd) and freshman Abygail Paez (21.26.9, 202nd in her first 5K XC race).
The Trojans will next be in action at the Highlander Invitational on Oct. 19 in Riverside, Calif. USC opened its season on the same course on Sept. 14 at the UC Riverside Invitational.
