USC Cross Country To Open Season At The UC Riverside Invitational Saturday
September 12, 2019 | Women's Cross Country, Features
The USC women's cross country team will open the 2019 season at the 39th Annual UC Riverside Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 14. The 6K race will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the UCR Agricultural Operations Course. All nine Trojans on the roster are expected to compete.
The following is USC cross country coach Patrick Henner's preseason outlook:
We have been doing a good job in training so far this Fall. The first meet at Riverside on Sept. 14 we will establish a baseline of where we are and then learn from that race and keep moving forward. After the first meet we will have two weeks before the Master's University Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 28, where we placed second among Division I schools last season, led by the now graduated Amber Gore. After that, we will have three weeks of training before closing out the regular season with a return to Riverside for the Highlander Invitational on Oct. 19. The Pac-12 Championships will be held in Monmouth, Ore. on Nov. 1.
Senior Kamryn Weber has been looking good in practice, as has sophomore Alyssa Brewer. Those two look like our top runners heading into the season, but I expect them to be challenged by the other runners as the season progresses. The remainder of our squad consists of senior Chloe Berry, juniors Jennifer Daly and Sydney Tullai, sophomores Abygail Paez, Jemima Russell and Brynn Sauer and freshman Brooke Rodi.
The whole group is focused on developing on learning race strategies and zeroing in on building up our intensity during the races. We will be using the early races to develop our skill sets.
Hopefully we will be focused and continue to develop throughout the season and can improve on last season.

Young Team Looks To Take A Step Forward During The 2019 Campaign
I am excited for the 2019 cross country season and look forward to seeing continued improvement from our runners. When I took over the program in 2017 I knew that it would be a process and the main goal currently is to work on getting a little better each day.We have been doing a good job in training so far this Fall.
