Breanna Bachini, who spent the last year as an assistant women's tennis coach at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., has been named the new USC women's tennis volunteer assistant coach, Trojan head coach Alison Swain announced today (Sept. 10).
"We are excited to have Breanna join us this year as a volunteer assistant," said Swain. "Her passion for the game, communication skills and experience in coaching were evident throughout our hiring process. With four years of Division I assistant coaching experience, we believe she will be able to make an immediate impact developing players in our program."
Bachini arrives at Troy after coaching one year as the assistant women's tennis coach at Gonzaga. The Bulldogs went 13-10 in the 2019 season while remaining undefeated at home and went 6-3 in West Coast Conference play. Bachini assisted in recruiting a stellar 2019 class including a five-star recruit and an international player. While coaching at Gonzaga, the Bulldogs earned their highest ITA ranking ever at No. 38. In addition, Bulldog Sophie Whittle became the first Gonzaga player ever to win the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships. Whittle was also the first Bulldog to qualify for the NCAA tournament in both singles and doubles (with partner Graciela Rosas). During the 2019 season, Whittle held the ITA No. 1 singles ranking on Feb. 6.
Before coaching at Gonzaga, Bachini coached for three years as the assistant men's and women's tennis coach at Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y. Throughout her three years at Colgate, the men recorded a 39-23 record and the women tallied a 24-34 record. While coaching the Raiders, she assisted in coaching multiple All-Patriot League selections.
Bachini graduated from Syracuse University in 2015 with a degree in communication and rhetorical studies and a minor in nutrition. She was a member of Syracuse's women's tennis team from 2011-2015. Before entering Syracuse, Bachini was a five-star recruit, ranked in the Top 40 in the nation by TennisRecruiting.net and was the No. 8 player in California.
