The Trojans will have Sunday off before donning the shoulder pads on Monday.
Playmaking was everywhere on Saturday at Howard Jones Field.
- A couple injury notes from head coach Clay Helton: WR John Jackson III pulled a hamstring on Friday, but he is expected back next week. LB Solomon Tuliaupupu is suffering from soreness in the foot that has plagued his college career so far. He is still unable to practice.
- Helton expects to regularly rotate 8 different receivers in this offense, and judging by the first two practices, he has plenty to choose from. Freshman wideouts Munir McClain and Drake London have opened eyes with their combination of size, speed and hands. "They are really competing," said Helton, who told all the young players not to act like freshmen. "You came here to compete right off the get-go and that's what those two kids are doing."
- Plus, sophomore Devon Williams made the catch of the day, showing that he's improving physically and mentally. "He's a kid that's maturing. [Last year], if a bad play happened, he would kind of go in the dumps," Helton said. "Today, [he] had a drop and then comes back and makes an unbelievable play."
- After a season of frustrating snaps, Helton complimented both of his centers, Brett Neilon and Justin Dedich, for their accuracy so far.
- Defensively, playmaking was an issue last year, and sophomore corner Olaijah Griffin is singlehandedly trying to change that. He has interceptions in each of the first two practices.
- In accordance with the acclimization rules, the Trojans will wear shoulder pads on Monday and Tuesday, and then put on the full pads for the first time on Wednesday.
