Casey Moon will be associate head coach for both teams.
Marko Pintaric, who has been part of 14 NCAA championships during his 18 years on the USC coaching staff, has been named head coach of the USC men's and women's water polo teams, USC athletic director Lynn Swann announced today (August 29). Longtime USC assistant coach Casey Moon will serve as associate head coach for both teams.
"After conducting a national coaching search, it was evident that Marko Pintaric is the right person to be the head coach of our men's and women's water polo teams," Swann said. "We have very talented and historically successful water polo programs at USC and we believe Marko will provide the continuity and stability that those programs need to stay at the top of the collegiate water polo world."
Pintaric, an All-American and 1998 NCAA champion as a player at USC, served as co-head coach for the USC men for the past three seasons (2016-18), most recently helping the Trojans to the 2018 NCAA Championship. His USC coaching career began as an assistant coach to both the USC men and women in 2001. Pintaric stayed in a dual coaching role until NCAA rules for coaching staff sizes changed in 2015-16, prompting a move to a scouting director role with the women while his assistant coaching role continued with the men for the next four years.
"This means a lot to me. As a Trojan myself, it's been a dream to coach at USC, and it's always been my goal to become a head coach and oversee this program," Pintaric said. "This is s a very special group of men and women who care about each other and the culture here. It is an honor and a pleasure to coach them."
Moon, meanwhile, enters his 12th season at USC. In all, Moon has been on the USC staff for six men's NCAA championship runs and four NCAA titles by the women. He also served as interim women's head coach during the 2019 season. He was the USC men's director of player personnel and the USC women's associate head coach for four seasons (2016-19), and was an assistant on both sides from 2007-14.
"I'm very happy that Casey is staying in our Trojan Family," Pintaric said of Moon. "He brings tremendous expertise and stability to the program, and he's a key to our men and women remaining successful."
The No. 1 ranked USC men are coming off a 2018 run to the NCAA Championship, their 10th national championship. The USC women, who also won an NCAA title in 2018, are coming off a 2019 season that saw them reach the NCAA final.
