- USC head coach Clay Helton explained that "a ton of performance anxiety got out today," as the team played live football for 90 minutes straight.
- USC QBs JT Daniels, Matt Fink and Jack Sears led two touchdown drives each, while freshman Kedon Slovis led one. "I thought they made great decisions today," Helton said of the QB group. "You didn't see any forced balls ... I thought there was consistency and poise among all of them."
- Helton said that after reviewing today's tape, he will sit down with USC offensive coordinator Graham Harrell on Monday to discuss the quarterback competition. Regardless of who comes out ahead, Helton's happy to have all four on his team. "I've never had four quarterbacks that could start on a lot of football teams across the country, and all are playing at a high level," he said.
- The quarterbacks helped USC's wide receivers shine during Saturday's scrimmage. "I thought our receivers made some dynamic plays today," Helton said. "'We've got a rule: If we touch it, we catch it,' and I thought they made some really good plays."
- The receivers' success highlighted USC's youth at secondary, but Helton called it a learning experience for the young DBs. "Everybody's going to learn from it," Helton said. "There were some really good plays made in the secondary, and then there were some one-on-one balls where some older kids that have played a lot of football made plays."
- Helton mentioned that he's continuing to double-train Greg Johnson at corner and nickel and Chase Williams at nickel and safety.
- Grad transfer Drew Richmond has been double-training at left tackle and right tackle, which Helton thinks is invaluable on the offensive line. "It's a long season, and if you have one [player] go down, you're always trying to find the best five," said Helton on his desire to produce versatile linemen. "You don't want two guys sitting behind each other that are really good."
- Helton called the offensive line the most improved position group on the team heading into Game 1.
- After unveiling the Coliseum to more than 10,000 fans today, Helton invited all Angelenos to come out to a game this season. "This is an exciting place, and I hope whether you're a Trojan or just a fan of football, I hope every citizen of Los Angeles gets to come out and enjoy it, because this is a gem of this city," he said. "We hope to see you on the 31st."
