Muhammad Sets World Record in Winning 400m Hurdles Title At USATF Championships

Nine Trojans qualify to represent USA at the World Championships
Dalilah Muhammad set the world record in with the women's 400m hurdles title and Angie Annelus captured the bronze medal in the women's 200m dash during the final day of the 2019 USA Track & Field (USATF) Outdoor Championships held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Ia. today (July 28). During the four days of competition, nine Trojans qualified for the USA team which will compete at the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar from Sept. 27-Oct. 6.
- Muhammad set the world, meet and facility record in the women's 400m hurdles final to claim the title with a time of 52.20. Anna Cockrell finished sixth in the final with a time of 56.14. Muhammad broke the previous world record in the event of 52.34 set by Yulia Pechonkina in 2003.
- Annelus had a time of 22.71 (-1.2) to finish third in the women's 200m final and earn a berth on the U.S. team which will compete at the World Championships. Annelus, the 2018 and 2019 NCAA 200m champion, advanced to the final by running 22.78 (-1.1) to take second in her semifinal heat and advance fourth overall to the final.
- Isaiah Jewett took fifth in the men's 800m final with a time of 1:46.66. He was just .34 seconds out of the third spot which would advance on to the World Championships.
- Earnest Sears III finished eighth in the men's high jump with a clearance of 7-3.00 (2.21m). He cleared 6-11 (2.11) and 7-1 (2.16) in his first attempt, but took three attempts to clear 7-3.00 and went out at 7-4.25 (2.24m).
- Alex Collatz Sellens finished seventh in the women's discus throw with a best mark of 191-3 (58.30m). That throw came in her third attempt to move her into seventh and she did not improve during the three throws in the finals.
- Marquis Morris had a time of 13.94 (-1.2) to finish seventh in his 110m hurdles semifinal and 13th overall. Brendan Ames took fifth in the same heat and finished 10th overall with a time of 13.70 (-1.2).
- Just'N Thymes had a time of 20.81 (-1.0) to place eighth in his 200m semifinal and 15th overall.
