McCullough Win USATF Hammer Throw Title, Terry 5th In 100m Dash

5 Trojans advance to finals & 2 to semifinals at USATF Outdoor Championships
Conor McCullough won the men's hammer throw title, TeeTee Terry was fifth in the women's 100m dash, five Trojans advanced to event finals and two more to semifinals during the second day of action at the 2019 USA Track & Field (USATF) Outdoor Championships held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Ia. today (July 26).  Â
- Conor McCullough won the men's hammer throw competition with a PR of 256-4 (78.14m) and will represent the U.S. at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar from July 27-Oct. 6. His winning mark puts him eighth on USA's all time hammer throw list. McCullough was in the second flight and took the lead with his first throw of 252-4 (76.92m), which surpassed the World Championships standard and set the facility record, besting the previous mark of 251-0 (76.51m) set in 2010 by Jake Freeman. He would surpass that three times in the competition with his winning throw and his mark of 252-2 (76.86) in the second round. McCullough led wire-to-wire and posted the top three throws in the competition.
- TeeTee Terry placed fifth in the women's 100m dash final with a time of 11.32 (-1.7). She was 0.04 second out of third place and a spot on the USA team for the World Championships. She advanced to the final earlier in the day by running 11.30 (-1.6) to take fourth in her semifinal heat, to qualify sixth overall to the final.
- Isaiah Jewett had a time of 1:48.29 to take third in his men's 800m semifinal to automatically advance to Sunday's event final. He had a strong finish to take third in his heat by 0.10 seconds and his time was 10th overall as the top three in each heat, plus the next two best times advanced.
- Kendall Ellis won the first women's 400m semifinal with a time of 50.81 to advance to tomorrow's final. Jaide Stepter took sixth in the same heat with a time of 52.35 and does not advance. Allyson Felix took third in the second semifinal with a time of 51.45 to also automatically advance to the final tomorrow. Ellis ended up with the second-fastest qualifying time, Felix the fifth and Stepter finished 12th overall.
- Michael Norman won his men's 400m semifinal with a time of 44.04 to automatically advance to the final tomorrow. His time was the fastest on the day.
- Rai Benjamin cruised to victory in his men's 400m hurdles semifinal with a time of 48.30. He advances to tomorrow's final with the top qualifying time.
- Chanel Brissett got the day started for the Trojans by easily advancing to tomorrow's semifinal in the women's 100m hurdles. Brissett was in the first heat and she placed second with a time of 13.01 (-1.0) to automatically advance. Ali won the second heat with a time of 12.92 (-2.5) to automatically advance. Ali ended up with the fifth-fastest qualifying time and Brissett the seventh.
