Eight Trojans Start World University Games Action In Italy
July 02, 2019 | Men's Water Polo, Women's Water Polo, Features
USA, Australia, Canada and Great Britain boast Trojans in Naples.
The Trojan contingent is strong in international waters once again, with eight USC men's and women's water polo players representing their countries at the 2019 World University Games in Naples, Italy. All the action kicks off today (July 2), with Trojans capping up for four different nations at the event, which runs through July 14.Â
It's a USC reunion for six Women of Troy, who rep three different countries at the Games. Team USA boasts four Trojans — Denise Mammolito, Holly Parker, Grace Tehaney and Bayley Weber — while Canada has Verica Bakoc on the roster and Australia has Tilly Kearns. All six Trojans are fresh off a powerful season at USC, where they combined forces to win the 2019 MPSF Tournament and reach the NCAA title match. The 2019 Women of Troy took just two losses all season long, giving them a solid springboard into international competition with their countries this summer.
On the men's side, two Trojans are in the mix. A 2018 NCAA Champion as a freshman, Jake Ehrhardt is lined up for duty with Team USA. On July 5, Ehrhardt will square off against an incoming teammate in Chris Sturtevant, who is a member of Great Britain's team at the Games.Â
