The USC water polo program had eight Trojans representing four different nations at the 2019 World University Games in Naples, Italy. When the waters finally settled out on July 14, Team USA's captain and USC rising sophomore Jake Ehrhardt emerged with a silver medal as the United States men finished out a successful run at the Games. On the women's side, USA's Bayley Weber — also a rising sophomore at USC — stood tall as the top scorer among all eight countries.
Just a handful of goals away from Weber's final tally of 19 was another Trojan — rising sophomore Tilly Kearns, who punched up 14 goals to lead her Australia squad. Coming in hot on her fellow Women of Troy was rising senior Denise Mammolito, who scored 13 goals for Team USA. Weber and Mammolito were joined by two more fellow Trojan teammates on the USA roster in rising sophomore Grace Tehaney, who score four goals, and rising redshirt junior Holly Parker, who capped up in the cage in three games and collected 21 saves for the U.S. cause. The United States would finish eighth on the women's side. Team Canada, meanwhile, had another Trojan in action with rising junior Verica Bakoc punching up six goals for the Canadians along the way to their fourth-place finish. Kearns and the Aussies wrapped up in fifth place.
USC had two Trojans competing on the men's side, with Jake Ehrhardt getting an early look at his incoming teammate Chris Sturtevant. Sturtevant will join the Trojans as a freshman this season, coming off a ninth-place finish with his Great Britain team at these World University Games. Ehrhardt, meanwhile, will bring a silver medal back to Troy as he starts his sophomore campaign with the Trojans.
