USC Rallies for 6-5 Win Over Cal State Fullerton

Jamal O'Guinn doubled home three runs to put the Trojans in front in the eighth, capping the five-run rally with two outs. USC improves to 13-18 overall, while the Titans fall to 14-15 on the year.
Offense was hard to come by on the night with less than ideal weather conditions in Los Angeles, but Cal State Fullerton managed to scrape together five runs on nine hits, taking a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the eighth. Ben Ramirez led the inning off with a single and would come around to score on a single from Tyler Pritchard later in the inning.
With two outs in the inning, CJ Stubbs kept the rally going, singling home another run to make it a 5-3 game. O'Guinn then followed with the bases loaded, doubling just inside the third-base bag to plate three runs and put USC ahead for good.
Carson Lambert, who entered the game in the seventh and stranded a pair of inherited runners, would toss a perfect ninth to close things out. Lambert allowed one run, on a wild pitch, in 2.1 innings of work.
Cal State Fullerton scored two in the fourth and two in the seventh, before adding the run on a wild pitch in the eighth. Clay Owens doubled home the Trojans lone run before the eight, plating Brandon Perez in the fourth.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Jamal O'Guinn went 2-for-4 with the game-winning, three-run double in the eighth inning. He also walked once and stole a base.
- Tyler Pritchard was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.
- Carson Lambert got the win after throwing 2.1 innings, giving up one run on one hit. He struck out two and walked none.
COMING UP
The Trojans hit the road for another Pac-12 series at Utah starting on Thursday. The Trojans then return home for five games, starting with Pepperdine on Tuesday.
