Ruffels leading USC, fifth through two rounds at par.
Sophomore Gabriela Ruffels carded a par 72 while freshman Katherine Muzi contributed her second straight counting score with a 74 to pace the No. 1 USC women's golf team in the second round of the Silverado Showdown at the Silverado Resort and Spa on Monday (April 8).
Â
The Trojans have some work to do if they are to extend their win streak to three and capture their sixth win this year, sitting third after 36 holes at 12-over 588 (291-297), 12 back of Northwestern (576) and one behind Stanford. San Jose State is fourth, a shot behind the Trojans.
Â
USC is playing without junior Allisen Corpuz and sophomores Alyaa Abdulghany and Jennifer Chang after the trio competed in last week's Augusta National Women's Amateur.
Â
Ruffels is leading the Trojans in fifth at even 144 (72-72) after her second straight par round, her third round of par or better in a row. She was 2-under at the turn with two bogeys on the back 9.
Â
Freshman Malia Nam is tied for 11th at 2-over 146 (71-75). She was even through 16 before finishing with a bogey and double bogey.
Â
Muzi, in her first career starting assignment, is now tied for 32nd at 7-over 151 (77-74). She had a pair of front 9 eagles on the par 5 fifth and ninth holes and finished her round with a birdie. She holed her bunker shot for the first eagle and chipped in on the second.
Â
Junior Aiko Leong is tied for 37th at 8-over 152 (71-81) while sophomore Amelia Garvey is tied for 54th at 10-over 154 (78-76).
Â
