STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 2-ranked USC beach volleyball team (17-4) put together a 5-0 sweep of No. 12 California (14-4) to open up play in the Pac-12 North Invitational at the Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium on Saturday, April 6. The win snaps a two-dual skid for the Women of Troy; is USC's fifth clean sweep of an opponent this season; and avenges a loss to the Golden Bears suffered in the 2018 Pac-12 North Invitational in Seattle last spring.
 
The Trojans got their first dual point from the top court where senior Abril Bustamante and sophomore Tina Graudina took down Jordan Polo and Caroline Schafer, 21-11, 21-15. It was the 50th win for the USC pair, and makes them the fifth pair in school history to reach the 50-win mark.
 
USC went ahead, 2-0, with a win at the No. 2 position as senior Terese Cannon and sophomore Sammy Slater completed a 21-14, 21-13 win over Grace Campbell and Maddie Micheletti. The dual victory went into the books with a win at court three where sophomore Haley Hallgren and senior Alexandra Poletto took down Alexia Inman and Iya Lindahl, 21-8, 21-15.
 
Both of the final two matches went to three sets with the Trojans getting wins at both locations. First to finish, the freshman tandem of Laurel Kujan and Hannah Martin got a 21-14, 16-21, 17-15 win over Madison Dueck and Jacqueline Ribeiro for a 4-0 USC lead. Junior Joy Dennis and sophomore Maja Kaiser delivered the sweep with their 21-13, 16-21, 15-10 win over Mia Merino and Abby Waldburger at the No. 4 position.
 
Up next, the Women of Troy play No. 19 Stanford at approximately 5 p.m. PT this evening. Tomorrow (April 7), USC faces No. 1 UCLA (9 a.m. PT) and Washington (11 a.m.) to conclude the North Invitational.
