No. 2 USC Beach Racks Up Home Victories Over No. 9 LBSU, No. 5 Pepperdine

The Women of Troy extended their winning streak to six duals
LOS ANGELES – The No. 2-ranked USC beach volleyball team (22-4) extended its winning stream to six duals with a 5-0 sweep of No. 9 Long Beach State (17-6) and a 4-1 win over No. 5 Pepperdine (16-7) at Merle Norman Stadium on Thursday, April 11.

The win over the 49ers is the Trojans' seventh straight and improves USC's record to 8-5 all-time against LBSU. The win over Pepperdine pulls the Women of Troy back to 13-13 all-time with the Waves and avenges a 3-2 loss in Malibu on March 30.

With two wins, including the clinching point against Long Beach State, the Trojans' top duo of senior Abril Bustamante and sophomore Tina Graudina recorded their 55th victory as a pair, to move into fourth all-time in school history; one win ahead of Jenna Belton and Jo Kremer (54 wins). The duo defeated LBSU's Megan Kruidhof and Mari Molina, 21-18, 21-14; and then knocked off Pepperdine's Brook Bauer and Heidi Dyer, 21-13, 21-19.

At the No. 2 position, senior Terese Cannon and sophomore Sammy Slater also picked up two wins including the clinching point against the Waves for their 44th and 45th as a pair. First, they defeated Zoi Konstantopoulou and Nicci Reinking in three sets, 19-21, 22-20, 15-9. Then, they took down Gigi Hernandez and Deahna Kraft, 21-17, 21-16.

Sophomore Haley Hallgren and senior Alexandra Poletto also did some damage from the third spot. The duo won its sixth straight match and improved to 34-7 all-time to move into 10th among USC pairs. They collected a 21-18, 21-13 win over LBSU's Claire Newlander and Sydney Stevens in the sweep and then had a 21-13, 21-19 win over Maddie Dilfer and Nikki Lyons of Pepperdine.

At No. 4, junior Joy Dennis paired with sophomore Maja Kaiser for a 21-13, 21-17 win over Kenzie Holtz and Kendra Koelsch of Long Beach State and then went the distance for a three-set win over Skylar Caputo and Alexis Filippone of Pepperdine, 18-21, 21-17, 15-10.

The Trojans fielded two different pairs at the No. 5 position. Against Long Beach State, junior Cammie Dorn teamed with freshman Hannah Martin to get a 21-15, 15-21, 18-16 win over Alexis Patterson and Tyler Spriggs. Martin paired with fellow frosh Laurel Kujan against the Waves but the two fell to Melanie Paul and Simone Priebe, 21-17, 21-15.

USC remains home for its final two regular-season duals. The Trojans will host Cal Poly and Grand Canyon next Thursday (April 18) at Merle Norman Stadium with pre-match ceremonies to honor Bustamante, Cannon, and Poletto.
