Funeral Services for Art Mazmanian Set for April 12 in San Dimas

LOS ANGELES--Funeral services for the late Art Mazmanian, the All-American second baseman on USC's first College World Series champions and then the successful head coach at Dorsey High and Mt. San Antonio Junior College, have been set for April 12 in San Dimas, Calif.
Mazmanian died on March 22 at the age of 91.
Services will be at 11 a.m. at Christ's Church of the Valley (1404 W. Covina Blvd., San Dimas 91773). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Art Mazmanian Memorial Fund, Mt. SAC Foundation (1100 No. Grand Ave., Walnut, Calif. 91789).
Mazmanian, USC's first 4-year letterman in baseball since 1915, was an All-American first teamer as a junior when he helped the Trojans defeat Yale in the final of the 1948 College World Series by going 3-for-3 at bat with a sacrifice and scoring a run in the first inning to give Troy a lead it never relinquished.
After playing minor league baseball for 6 years with the New York Yankees organization, he coached baseball and football for 13 years (1955-67) at Dorsey High in Los Angeles, his alma mater.
He then was the head baseball coach at Mt. San Antonio, winning 731 games in 31 years (1958-98).
He spent 18 summers during his time at Dorsey and Mt. SAC managing in the minor leagues with the Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Athletics, winning 663 games. In 1984, he was an assistant coach for the U.S. Olympic baseball team that won a silver medal.
He also coached 5 seasons (2011-15) at South Hills High in Covina (Calif.) and in 2016 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College.
