Women's Lacrosse | March 18, 2019

SAN FRANCISCO – USC lacrosse sophomores Sophia Donovan (Santa Clara, Calif.) and Riley Hertford (Lake Oswego, Ore.) were each named the Pac-12 Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 11-17, the Conference announced on Monday, March 18.

Donovan—an attacker; and Hertford—a goaltender; each receive their first-career league weekly awards. The two selections represent the USC program's seventh and eighth all-time Pac-12 weekly certificates.

The Trojans extended their winning streak to a season-long five games with an 11-5 win at No. 23-ranked Colorado and a 14-5 victory at Oregon on back-to-back days.

Donovan led the USC attack in both games and recorded her third and fourth consecutive hat tricks in the two wins. Against the Buffaloes, she scored three goals, handed out one assist, picked up two ground balls and caused one turnover. She repeated with three goals and an assist against the Ducks and picked up one ground ball. Donovan went 1-for-1 from free position and was torrid on 6-for-6 shots on goal. As one of the Trojans' primary ball handlers, she was also turnover-free through the two games. Donovan leads the Trojans in points (26) and goals (20) this season and ranks third with 15 ground balls.

Hertford recorded her second-career 10-save game against the Buffaloes and allowed only five goals in the win. She also matched a career high with seven ground balls at Colorado and caused two turnovers. She had two saves to go with one ground ball and one caused turnover against the Ducks. This season, Hertford leads the Trojans with 33 ground balls and is tied for third on the team with 10 caused turnovers. She has a 45.1-percent save percentage and leads the Pac-12 at a 9.25 goals-against average.

The Pac-12 is in its second season of women's lacrosse. Trojans have now earned conference weekly honors eight times. All-league goalie Gussie Johns was chosen twice for defensive player of the week in 2018; and All-American defender Lydia Sutton was named Defensive Player of the Week once. Senior attacker Emily Concialdi was chosen for the offensive award on Feb. 25 this season. Junior midfielder Kerrigan Miller was chosen for the offensive award in 2018 and the defensive honor in 2019.

The 20th-ranked Women of Troy (8-1, 3-0 Pac-12) are on a five-game winning streak; the team's longest since a 12-game run from March 26-May 14, 2017. USC hosts California (4-6, 1-2) on Saturday, March 23, at noon PT, on McAlister Field. The game will be streamed live on the Pac-12+ platform. On Monday, March 25, the Trojans take on No. 19-ranked Stanford (6-2, 2-1) for a 4 p.m. first draw and a game that will be shown live on Pac-12 Los Angeles and Pac-12 Bay Area.
