No. 1 USC, led by sophomore Jennifer Chang's even 72 and sophomore Amelia Garvey's 1-over 73, extended their lead to 13 strokes after Saturday's second round of the Clover Cup in Mesa, Arizona.
The Trojans, a three-time winner this year with a six-stroke lead to start the round, combined for a 5-over 293 second round and are now 9-over 585 (292-293). Oklahoma is second at 22-over while Kentucky is third at 23-over.
Chang moved into second place alone at par 144 (72-72), three off the lead, after another even round. She was 2-over through 4, but finished the final 14 holes at 2-under without another bogey. She is competing for her team-best fifth top 10 result.
Garvey (74-73) joined freshman Malia Nam (74-73) in a tie for sixth at 3-over 147. Garvey was 1-under going out and 2-over coming home, working for her sixth straight top 16 finish. Nam was also 1-under at the turn but 3-over on the back 9 as she looks for her seventh top 17 this season.
Sophomore Gabriela Ruffels is tied for 12th at 5-over 149 (75-74), which included a 1-under back 9 with birdies on 15 and 18. She is trying to add to her five top 21 finishes this year.
The Trojans' pair of individual entrees continued their strong play. Junior Aiko Leong is tied for ninth at 4-over 148 (74-74) while sophomore Alyaa Abdulghany is tied for 15th at 6-over 150 (76-74).
Junior Allisen Corpuz finished Saturday tied for 31st at 9-over 153 (73-80). The final round is set for Sunday.
