The USC women's tennis team will welcome two new Trojans, head coach Alison Swain announced today (March 1). Carson Branstine and Eryn Cayetano will officially join the Women of Troy in the fall of 2019.
"I'm thrilled about both Carson and Eryn joining USC women's tennis next fall," said Swain. "Raised in Southern California, both players are Trojans at heart and are excited to be members of the Trojan Family."
Carson Branstine is not only one of the nation's top prospects, but she is also one of the best female junior tennis players worldwide. In 2017, the International Tennis Federation ranked Branstine the No. 4 junior player in the world.
Although she was born and raised in Irvine, Calif., Branstine competes internationally representing Canada, as her mother is from Toronto.
Branstine has many notable accomplishments including winning the 2017 Australian Open and 2017 French Open junior doubles titles. In addition to being the doubles champion in both of those Junior Grand Slam events, she was a quarterfinalist in singles at both the 2017 Junior Wimbledon and the 2016 Junior US Open.
While competing on the professional tennis circuit, Branstine was the 2018 $25K Pro Circuit Gatineau, Canada doubles champion, qualified for the 2017 and 2018 Rogers Cup, placed second in doubles at the 2017 Quebec Premier International Tournament and has collected ten Women's Tennis Association (WTA) top 100 doubles wins. She also holds a UTR rating of 11.87.
"Carson's tennis resume speaks for itself," said Swain. "She brings a wealth of junior and professional international tournament experience including Junior Grand Slam titles. She is an incredibly driven and focused athlete who is excited to add to the Trojan tennis legacy."
Eryn Cayetano is the No. 18 ranked player nationally by Tennis Recruiting. The Corona, Calif. product has collected many USTA national titles and was the 2018 Ojai Junior Tournament champion. In 2017, she placed second at the USTA Winter Nationals.
Cayetano was the 2018 recipient of the USTA National Sportsmanship Award Winner. This award recognizes America's finest junior tennis players who exhibit leadership, sportsmanship and character on and off the court.
Cayetano won the 2018 CIF Southern Section Division II Girls' Individual Tennis Championship representing her high school, St. Anthony's. She was named the 2018 Press-Telegram Girls Tennis Dream Team Player of the Year. She also was the 2017 co-captain of St. Anthony's varsity golf team and earned first-team All-Del Rey League honors.
"Eryn exemplifies what I look for in recruits to our program," said Swain. "She has a tremendous work ethic, passion for the game and demonstrates the highest level of integrity on and off the court. I've watched Eryn's tennis game mature over the last year and a half, and I'm excited about the impact she will have on our program in the future."
Both future Trojans will arrive in the fall of 2019 ready to contribute for the Women of Troy.
All incoming student-athletes must be final certified by the NCAA and the USC Athletics compliance office to compete for Trojans in the 2019-20 competition year.
