USC Wins Four Events During The First Day Of The Tyson Invitational

Jemima Russell won the women's 800m race with a USC freshman-record time, Chanel Brissett won the women's 60m hurdles, Kyra Constantine won the women's 400m, Chloe Berry won the women's one-mile race and Ayden Owens bettered his USC freshman record twice in the 60m hurdles during the first day of action at the Tyson in Fayetteville, Ark. today (Feb. 8).
- Russell won the women's 800m race with a USC freshman record of 2:05.90, just 0.2 seconds off the school record. Her time moved her from fifth to second on USC's all-time list. Fellow freshman and holder of the previous record (2:06.48) Alyssa Brewer took fourth with a time of 2:07.88.
- The sophomore Brissett won the women's 60m hurdles final with a PR of 7.90 to move from fourth to second on USC's all-time list in the event. Junior Anna Cockrell placed 6th in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.15 and senior Dior Hall was seventh with a time of 8.17. Brissett won the prelims with a time of 8.00, Hall was fourth (8.11), Cockrell fifth (8.13), junior Mecca McGlaston ninth (8.25) and senior Lyndsey Lopes 19th (8.62). Lopes had a time of 8.66 in the qualifying round to place 13th and advance.
- Owens placed sixth in the men's 60m hurdles final with a USC freshman-record time of 7.83 and bettered his sixth-place standing on USC's all-time list. He set the USC freshman record two weeks ago with a time of 7.85, then bettered it twice today, running 7.84 in the prelims to place fifth. He opened the day with a time of 7.87 to post the fastest qualifying-round time. Freshman Omotade Ojora had a time of 8.10 to place 12th in the qualifying round and a season-best time of 7.96 in the prelims to place 15th overall and better his ninth-place standing on USC's all-time list.
- Constantine won the women's 400m Fastest Section race with a slight season-best time of 53.07. The junior won the fourth section heat and won overall by .15 seconds. Freshman Bailey Lear took second in the third heat and placed 11th overall with a time of 54.18.
- Junior Chloe Berry won the women's one-mile race with a time of 4:58.41. She won the event by .37 seconds.
- Sophomore Zach Shinnick originally placed third in his heat and ninth overall in the men's Fastest Section 400m race with a time of 47.91, but was later was one of four runners disqualified
- Sophomore TeeTee Terry placed third in the women's 60m final with a time of 7.25, while freshman Lanae-Tava Thomas placed seventh with a time of 7.36. In the prelims Terry was second (7.29), Thomas third (7.32) and redshirt junior Angie Annelus ninth (7.42). Brissett had a time of 7.57 in the 60m qualifier to place eighth overall and advance, but did not run in the preliminary rounds.
- Freshman Brendon Stewart took second in the men's 60m dash final with a time of 6.64, 0.01 seconds behind the winner. The other top five finishers were three seniors and one professional. Stewart had a time of 6.66 to place third in the prelims. In the qualifying round, sophomore Earvin da Silva was 16th (6.92), sophomore Nick Moore 21st (SB of 6.95) and freshman Daniel Robinson was 22nd (6.96).
- Sophomore Cameron Samuel won the ninth heat and finished third overall in the men's 400m race with a time of 47.46. Freshman Talin Lewis had a season-best time of 49.93 to place 35th.
- Junior Mathew Myrtue placed fourth in the men's 800m race with a PR of 1:51.64 and moved from seventh to sixth on USC's all-time list. The man he dropped to seventh on USC's all-time list freshman Sam VanDorpe had a time of 1:52.38 to finish 6th. Freshman Devin Bright had a time of 1:55.67 to place 15th overall. Junior Isaiah Jewett ran as a pacer and had a time of 1:20.16 through 600m in section three before pulling up.
- Senior Margaux Jones placed seventh in the women's long jump Invitational with a best jump of 19-5.50 (5.93m) in her fifth attempt.
- Lopes placed 24th in the women's long jump with a season-best leap of 17-11.50 (5.47m).
- Owens finished 18th in the men's long jump with a best leap of 22-1.00 (6.73m) and Lewis was 19th with a jump of 21-9.00 (6.63m).
