Tara McKeown Named First-Team All-American
December 05, 2019 | Women's Soccer, Features
LOS ANGELES – The United Soccer Coaches released its All-America teams today and USC's Tara McKeown was named to the association's first team.
McKeown's selection to the first team is the fifth in program history and the second in the last two years after Ally Prisock was named a First-Team All-American last year. The Trojans have now had 23 All-America selections overall (first, second or third team).
For the junior McKeown, it is her first All-America honor and only adds to a growing list of accolades achieved this season. After leading the Trojans to an appearance in the NCAA Quarterfinal round, McKeown was named to the All-Pacific Region first team earlier this week. She was also named the Pac-12 Forward of the Year this season, as well as making an appearance on the all-conference first team.
McKeown finished this season with 38 total points, which is the fourth best total in program history, scoring 15 goals (third most in program history) and notching eight assists (14th in program history). McKeown is third in the Pac-12 in goals scored and tied for seventh in assists, while her 1.81 points per game are 18th in the nation.
She scored multiple goals four times this season, and had a goal in 11 of the team's 23 games. McKeown had a career day against then No. 1 Florida State early in the season, scoring twice, including 35 seconds into the game, and assisting on the game-winning goal in overtime for a career-high five points. She had two games with multiple assists this year and on three occasions she recorded both a goal and assist in a game.
For her career, McKeown has amassed 25 goals and 20 assists, making her one of just five players in program history to post at least 20 in each category while wearing a Trojan uniform. With one more year to play, McKeown is already tied for sixth on the USC career goals scored list and is seventh in career assists. The Southern California native has done all of this while playing outside back, midfielder and forward over the course of her three years at Troy.
Of the 23 All-America selections in program history, 10 have now come under Head Coach Keidane McAlpine's watch (six seasons), the most during any coach's tenure at USC.
