Plumptre Garners Scholar All-America Nod
December 18, 2019 | Women's Soccer, Features
LOS ANGELES – The United Soccer Coaches released its Scholar All-America teams and USC's Ashleigh Plumptre earned second team recognition.
Plumptre, who earlier this week was named to the Scholar All-West Region first team, is the first Trojan since Sammy Jo Prudhomme in 2016 to earn Scholar All-American status from the coaches association.
Plumptre earned the honor after posting a 3.76 GPA as a human biology major. She has the seventh highest GPA on the second team and is one of four players from the Pac-12 to earn Scholar All-American status. The honor adds to a growing list of postseason awards for Plumptre as she was named to the All-Pacific Region first team and All-Pac-12 second team as well. Plumptre has earned Pac-12 academic recognition each of the last two years and was CoSIDA Academic All-District in 2018.
Plumptre has been the heart of the Trojan defense all year, helping the team to nine shutouts this season and a 1.15 goals against average. Also a contributor on the offensive end, Plumptre scored one goal when she netted the game-winner on the road against Oregon State, and has also posted two assists.
Plumptre is one of just two Trojans (along with the aforementioned Prudhomme) to earn Scholar All-America honors from the United Soccer Coaches, and the pair are joined by Alex Anthony, who was named an Academic All-American by CoSIDA in 2017, as the only three USC players to earn national academic recognition. All three have come during Head Coach Keidane McAlpine's tenure.
