Plumptre, Woodward Named to Scholar All-Region Teams

LOS ANGELES – The United Soccer Coaches released its Scholar All-Region teams this week and USC women's soccer players Ashleigh Plumptre and Jalen Woodward earned recognition for their work in the classroom and on the field.
Plumptre was named to the All-West Region first team and Woodward was named to the West Region's third team. Both players finished their collegiate careers in 2019 and will graduate a semester early this December.
Plumptre earned the first team honor after posting a 3.76 GPA as a human biology major. She has the seventh highest GPA on the 13 player first team and is the only human biology major to earn first team recognition in any region.
Plumptre has been the heart of the Trojan defense all year, helping the team to nine shutouts this season and a 1.15 goals against average. Also a contributor on the offensive end, Plumptre scored one goal when she netted the game-winner on the road against Oregon State, and has also posted two assists. She was named to the All-Pacific Region first team and All-Pac-12 second team as well. Plumptre has earned Pac-12 academic recognition each of the last two years and was CoSIDA Academic All-District in 2018.
Woodward earned her first Scholar All-Region award thanks to a 3.32 GPA as a business administration major. She has earned Pac-12 academic recognition each of the last two years as well, and this season was also named to the All-Pac-12 second team.
The senior captain has held down the holding midfielder spot this year, helping USC to nine shutouts and just 11 shots per game by their opponents. She started all 20 of the games she appeared in this season and topped the 80 career games played mark during the 2019 campaign. Woodward also posted three assists this year while anchoring the USC midfield. Her first assist came in a 3-2 overtime win over Seattle, a team coached by her mother Julie Woodward, and her final two came in the Trojans' Elite 8 matchup with North Carolina.
