Trojans Fall in Second Rounds of Oracle ITA National Fall Championships

Three Trojans took to the courts at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Newport Beach, Calif. at the Newport Beach Tennis Club. The Women of Troy advanced as far as the second rounds in their respective competitions. No. 52 Angela Kulikov reached the Round of 32 in singles, while the duo of No. 18 Angela Kulikov/Danielle Willson reach the Round of 16 in doubles where they unfortunately lost ending their progression to a title.
Both Kulikov and No. 36 Salma Ewing competed in the singles tournament and played in close matches. Ewing lost in a tight match in the Round of 64 to Vanderbilt's No. 35 Georgia Drummy 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2. Kulikov advanced from the first round by defeating FAU's No. 51 Martina Kudelova 7-6 (4), 6-3. Kulikov then went on to play Miami's No. 2 Estela Perez-Somarriba in the Round of 16 where she lost in a 7-5, 6-3 decision.
In doubles, the Trojan tandem of Kulikov/Willson beat Yale's No. T29 pair of Gong/Martinelli 6-1, 6-4 in the Round of 32. USC then faced a big challenge in the Round of 16, where they took on No. 3 ranked Morra/Jones of North Carolina. The Trojans lost to the Tarheels 6-2, 6-4 to end their championship run.
This event concludes the fall tournament season for the Women of Troy. USC's dual match season will begin in January 2020.
