Senior Allisen Corpuz fired a 3-under 70 – her eighth straight round under par – while junior Alyaa Abdulghany carded a 1-under 72 to lead No. 4 USC during the first round of the Nanea Pac-12 Preview at Nanea G.C. in Kailua Kona, Hawaii, on Monday (Nov. 4).
The Trojans finished a combined 2-under 290, eight back of first-place Arizona in fourth. USC led for part of the afternoon before falling back.
Corpuz is tied for fourth at 3-under 70, two off the lead. Starting on 11 in the shotgun start, she finished her first nine at 2-under and the second at 1-under with six birdies on the day.
Abdulghany, coming off of a season-best tie for eighth at Stanford, is tied for 13th at 1-under thanks to her fifth round under par in seven outings. The steady junior parred her opening hole on 12, birdied 13, and finished with 16 consecutive pars.
Junior Amelia Garvey and sophomore Malia Nam are tied for 24th at 1-over 74. Garvey was 4-over through five holes but battled back with six birdies over her remaining 13 holes.
Nam, on the other hand, got off to a quick start, 4-under through seven holes including an eagle on 18, but finished her final 10 holes at 5-over.
Junior Gabriela Ruffels is tied for 40th at 3-over 76.
The second round Tuesday (Nov. 5) will again begin at 9:30 a.m. PT with a shotgun start.
