Chang, a junior, will turn pro immediately to join 2020 tour.
USC junior Jennifer Chang tied for ninth today in the eighth-round finale of the LPGA Q-Series at Pinehurst (N.C.) on Saturday (Nov. 2) to complete her transition from the college ranks to professional golfer, earning her tour card and joining Trojan medalist Muni He and 2016 grad Kyung Kim, who claimed her first LPGA berth after a tie for 41st.
He, who played on the LPGA Tour in 2018 before losing status, led the entire 72-hole back half of the event and finished first at 21-under 551 (69-70-67-69-65-70-71-70), dominating the event with a three-stroke win.
Chang, a first-team All-American in 2019, tied for ninth at 5-under 567 (74-69-70-68-71-68-72-75) and will forgo her final three semesters at USC to join the LPGA Tour in 2020.
"Before I left for second stage I talked to (Coach) Justin (Silverstein) about leaving after this semester. It's definitely one of the hardest decisions that I had to .
"I feel like I've grown so much as a player and a person here at USC, but I feel like I am ready to play out on tour. I'm so grateful for my coaches and giving me the opportunity to attend and play for one of the top universities in the country."
Kim, a two-time All-American first teamer who was part of USC's 2013 NCAA title team, finished at 5-over 577 (70-71-74-72-75-70-74-71) to nail down her first card, just inside the 45-woman cut line to earn her card.
