November 26, 2019 | Women's Soccer, Features
LOS ANGELES – Tara McKeown was named a semifinalist for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy which is given each year to the top player in college soccer.
McKeown is one of 15 semifinalists for the award and is the fifth USC player ever to earn the distinction. The Trojans have had a semifinalist for the award three of the last four seasons, with Ally Prisock being named a semifinalist last year and Morgan Andrews being named a finalist in 2016.
The junior forward is in the midst of one of the best seasons in USC program history, with her 15 goals and seven assists earning her Pac-12 Forward of the Year honors already this season. Her 37 total points are the third most in a season in program history, and her 15 goals are the third best season total ever by a Trojan. McKeown's 1.85 points per game are good for 16th in the country this season, and her 15 goals are also 18th in the nation and third in the conference.
She has picked up both National and Pac-12 Player of the Week twice this season in addition to her Forward of the Year and All-Pac-12 first team honors. McKeown has four braces on the year, including scoring twice and assisting the game-winner in overtime against then-No. 1 Florida State.
Her 25 career goals are tied for seventh on the USC career list and her 19 career assists are good for seventh on that list as well. Over the course of her three years at USC, McKeown has also played as an outside back and a midfielder, but has flourished this season after being moved up top. The Newbury Park native has competed for the U.S. U-20 Women's National Team at the 2018 World Cup, and has been All-Pac-12 each of the last two seasons, as well as Pac-12 All-Freshman in 2017.
Three finalists will be named for the award on Friday, Dec. 6 in conjunction with the Women's College Cup in San Jose, Calif. The 2019 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 3, 2020 to formally announce this year's winners.
