November 13, 2019 | Women's Soccer, Features
LOS ANGELES – Tara McKeown was named the Forward of the Year and a total of eight Trojans garnered All-Conference and All-Freshman honors with the release of the Pac-12 postseason awards today.
McKeown was joined by Penelope Hocking on the All-Pac-12 first team, while Ashleigh Plumptre and Jalen Woodward earned second team honors, and Julia Bingham was named to the third team. USC had three rookies on the All-Freshman team as well, with Olufolasade Adamolekun, Jaelyn Eisenhart and Kaylin Martin earning the honor.
The Trojans have had at least five players named to All-Pac-12 teams each of the last four years and this is the second time in three years that a trio of USC players have been on the All-Freshman squad.
Tara McKeown – Pac-12 Forward of the Year / All-Pac-12 first team
McKeown was named the top striker in the league after posting one of the best regular seasons in program history this year. The junior forward scored a total of 14 goals, good for second in the conference and 17th in the nation, while also posting seven assists, which was good for sixth in the Pac-12 during the regular season. She had 35 points per game this season, trailing only Midfielder of the Year Catarina Macario (Stanford) in the Pac-12. Her four game-winning goals were third in the league this year and her 2.5 shots on goal per game were eighth in the country. She has helped USC to the third best goals per game average (1.95) in the explosive Pac-12 and to 14 wins for the fifth straight year.
McKeown's 35 total points are the third most in a season ever by a Trojan and her 14 goals match teammate Hocking for the second best single-season total in USC history. She was named to the All-Pac-12 third team last season and was on the All-Freshman team in 2017.
Penelope Hocking – All-Pac-12 first team
After winning Pac-12 Freshman of the Year last season, Hocking followed up her phenomenal debut campaign with a stellar sophomore season this year to earn the first All-Conference first team nod of her career. Her 12 goals were second on the team and third in the Pac-12, and her 29 total points were fourth in the league during the regular season. Hocking led the Trojans with five game-winning goals this season, good for second in the Pac-12 and 24th in the country. The second-year forward is the first Trojan to open her career with back-to-back 10-goal seasons and is already fifth on USC's career goals scored list, with 26.
Ashleigh Plumptre – All-Pac-12 second team
Plumptre switched to central defender this season after playing as an outside back last year and a midfielder earlier in her career, and has continued to shine for the Trojans. Anchoring the USC backline, she has helped the Trojans to a total of eight shutouts on the year and a +15 goal differential. Plumptre has also contributed on the offensive end, leading all defenders on the team with four total points, scoring once and posting two assists. Her lone goal was a game-winner against Oregon State in a 1-0 victory for the Trojans. It is the first All-Conference honor of Plumptre's career.
Jalen Woodward – All-Pac-12 second team
Woodward, a senior captain for the Trojans, has held down the holding midfielder spot this year, helping USC to eight shutouts and just 10 shots per game by their opponents. She started all 16 of the games she appeared in this regular season and topped the 80 career games played mark during the 2019 campaign. Woodward also posted one assist this year while anchoring the USC midfield. Her lone assist came in a 3-2 overtime win over Seattle, a team coached by her mother Julie Woodward. The second team honor is the first All-Conference award of Woodward's career.
Julia Bingham – All-Pac-12 third team
Bingham has been another key member of USC's defensive effort this season, starting all 19 games as an outside back for the Trojans during the 2019 regular season. In addition to the aforementioned team defensive accolades of eight shutouts, a +15 goal differential and 10 shots allowed per game, Bingham posted one assist during Pac-12 play in a 2-1 overtime win over Utah. She earns her second straight All-Pac-12 honor after being named to last year's second team, and was also named to the All-Freshman squad in 2016. Bingham leads all active Trojans with 85 games played for her career.
Olufolasade Adamolekun – All-Freshman Team
Adamolekun found plenty of ways to contribute off the bench this season, appearing in 16 games both in the midfield and up top for USC. She posted two assists this season, with both coming on the road at Baylor. The highly-touted recruit came into the season after competing with Jamaica at this summer's World Cup.
Jaelyn Eisenhart – All-Freshman Team
Eisenhart has appeared in 16 games as well this year, making three starts in the midfield for the Trojans over the course of the 2019 regular season. She took a total of eight shots this year and has one goal during her rookie campaign, scoring on the road at Baylor.
Kaylin Martin – All-Freshman Team
Martin had a breakout year during her redshirt-freshman campaign, stepping into the outside back role as both a starter and reserve for the Trojans. She appeared in 17 games and made 13 starts, helping the Trojans to eight shutouts while also posting three points on the year. Martin scored the game-winner in the final minute at Arizona State and posted an assist against Arizona to earn Pac-12 Player of the Week.
