Trojans add 2019 Junior Solheim Cup teammates to squad.
Brianna Navarrosa from San Diego, Calif., and Christine Wang from Houston, Texas – both prep All-Americans as well as 2019 Junior Solheim cup teammates – have signed letters of intent with USC, Trojan women's golf coach Justin Silverstein announced today.
Navarrosa, currently ranked No. 5 by Rolex AJGA and No. 123 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, is a senior at Mater Dei Catholic High in San Diego. A two-time Rolex Junior All-American (2017-18), she won the 2019 Canadian Women's Amateur Championship at 10-under 278, edging current Trojan juniors Jennifer Chang and Alyaa Abdulghany by one and three strokes, respectively. It was her second win of the 2019 season after claiming the Buick Shanshan Feng AJGA Girls Invitational in February.
Navarrosa's 2019 also included a tie for 11th at the SCGA Women's Amateur and a pair of top 9 finishes at the Thunderbird International Junior and the PING Heather Farr Classic. She also won the 2018 California state title after finishing second in 2017.
"Brianna has been a long-time target of ours and we couldn't be more thrilled to have her sign today and become a Trojan," Silverstein said. "Her junior and amateur record rivals any other player in the country and we cannot wait to get her on campus and into the lineup to help us compete for more national titles."
Navarrosa joined Wang in helping the U.S. win the 2019 Junior Solheim Cup in September. Navarrosa's singles win provided the clinching point while Wang followed right after with America's final point in the 13-11 win.
"If you could draw up a model student-athlete at USC you would come up with a resume very similar to the one that Christine has put together," Silverstein said. "Not only does she have an amazing junior and amateur golf record, she is exceptional in the classroom which is highlighteda by her multiple-time selection onto the AJGA Scholastic Junior All-America Girls Team."
Wang, currently ranked No. 13 in Rolex AJGA and No. 224 in the WAGR, is a senior at St. John's School in Houston. Wang was a semifinalist at the 2019 North & South Amateur and a part of the victorious 2018 Wyndham Cup West team. She was third at the 2019 Texas Junior Amateur and was 13th at the 2019 ANA Junior Inspiration.
She was a 2019 Rolex Junior All-American and has two AJGA victories to her credit, including the 2018 AJGA Junior at Lost Springs as well as the Greg Norman Champions Golf Academy Junior Championship.
The 2019 Houston Chronicle Girls Golfer of the Year, Wang has a pair of 2019 second-place finishes at the C.T. Pan Junior and the Hunter Mahan Junior Championship (where she tied for second) to go with a tie for fifth at the Polo Golf Junior Classic. At 13, Wang won the Greater City of Houston Junior Tournament.
