USC Wins 4 Events & Jewett Sets The School 800m Record At The Texas Tech Classic

Isaiah Jewett set the USC' men's indoor 800m record, Alyssa Brewer won the women's 800m race, Margaux Jones captured women's long jump title on her final attempt, Earnest Sears III won the men's high jump and the women's 4x400m relay was victorious during the final day of action at the Texas Tech Classic in Lubbock, Texas today (Jan. 26).
- Freshman Alyssa Brewer got the Trojans started on the right track by winning the women's 800m race with a USC freshman record of 2:06.48, edging out 2018 NCAA champion Sammie Watson of Texas A&M. Brewer also moved to third on USC's all-time list. Fellow freshman Jemima Russell placed third with a time of 2:08.04 to move to fifth on USC's all-time list.
- Junior Isaiah Jewett followed by setting the USC men's 800m record with a time of 1:46.91 to finish second overall. Freshman Sam VanDorpe finished 10th in the 800m race with a time of 1:51.65 and junior Matthew Myrtue placed 11th with a time of 1:51.78. VanDorpe moved to sixth and Myrtue to seventh on USC's all-time indoor 800m list.
- Senior Margaux Jones had a strong series of jump and ultimately won the competition by one-quarter inch in her final attempt, jumping 20-9.25 (6.33m).
- Freshman Talin Lewis finished 13th in the men's long jump with a best leap of 22-7.75 (6.90m).
- For the second week in-a-row sophomore Earnest Sears III cleared a PR of 7-5.25 (2.27m) to win the men's high jump. He cleared that height on his third attempt and then took three shots at 7-6.25 (2.30m) which would have been a school record. He stands in third place on USC's all-time list behind only Jesse Williams and Randall Cunningham who have cleared 7-6.00 (2.29m). Freshman Nathan Patterson finished ninth with a best clearance of 6-8.00 (2.03m).
- The women's "A" 4x400m relay team of Anna Cockrell, Bailey Lear, Kyra Constantine and Kaelin Roberts won with a time of 3:31.25. That time was the seventh-fastest ever run by a Trojan quartet indoors. USC's "B" team of Lyndsey Lopes, Mecca McGlaston, Russell and Brewer had a time of 3:41.75 to finish eighth.
- The men's "A" 4x400m relay team of Cameron Samuel, Ayden Owens, Eric Allen Jr. and Jewett placed fourth with a time of 3:06.46, fourth all-time on USC's indoor 4x400m list. USC's "B" team of Devin Bright, VanDorpe, Earvin da Silva and Myrtue had a time of 3:20.65 to place 13th.
- Redshirt junior Matthew Katnik took second in the men's shot put competition with a best mark of 64-0.25 (19.51m). He had four throws over 62 feet.
- USC had six women finish in the top 13 of the women's 200m race, led by redshirt junior Angie Annelus who finished second with a PR of 23.16. She moved from tied for seventh to tied for fourth on USC's all-time list. Sophomore TeeTee Terry was fourth with a time of 23.56, freshman Lanae-Tava Thomas was fifth with a time of 23.70, redshirt senior Dior Hall was 10th with a PR of 23.90, junior Mecca McGlaston was 12th with a time of 23.94 (.933) and redshirt senior Ky Westbrook was 13th with a time of 23.94 (.934).
- In the men's 200m dash, freshman Eric Allen Jr. had a PR and USC freshman record of 20.63 to finish third overall and move from ninth to fifth on USC's all-time list, edging ahead of Michael Norman on the list. Freshman Brendon Stewart had a PR of 21.26 to finish 12th overall and move to 10th on USC's all-time list, while sophomore Earvin da Silva had a PR of 21.54 to place 19th.
