Trojans Down Under - USC Women's Tennis Australia Trip Blog - Pt. 1

G'day Trojan Fans!
This is Angela Kulikov of USC Women's Tennis coming to you from the land Down Under! After 20+ hours of travel, we finally arrived at our first stop on the Tour of Australia in the beautiful city of Cairns. After enduring a long flight (I also unluckily picked up the flu on the day of our departure...talk about bad timing), the entire team got off the plane and prepared for a slow day of rest at the hotel.

Straight from customs and baggage claim, we immediately went to the tennis courts for practice! However, the courts at the Cairns International Tennis Centre were drenched following a seemingly out of nowhere downpour. The coaches were forced to call an audible and decided on a full group session of fitness with our strength and conditioning coach Darien Pyka. We decided that moving our bodies was the best way to help us 1) get some of the stiffness out from the long flight and 2) help us stay awake so we could adjust to the significant time change. While we definitely weren't feeling our absolute best, the adrenaline and excitement of simply being here got us through the workout with smiles.
Straight from the courts, we embarked on our first Australian adventure - a trip to Hartley's Crocodile Adventures! Braving the heat, humidity and random spurts of rain (reminder: it's summer here!), we were able to get up-close and personal with some giant crocs, feed the kangaroos and take some pictures with super friendly koala bears. #Bucketlist! I have to admit, I'm not too comfortable around reptiles, so I kept my respectful distance, but being around these creatures was definitely a cool experience.
So, it's not even a full day into the trip, and we've already done some crazy stuff! Speaking of which, tomorrow we'll be exploring one of the Seven Wonders of the World: the Great Barrier Reef! Make sure to follow along as I'll be keeping you all updated on our crazy adventures down undaaa!
