LOS ANGELES – USC women's soccer standouts Savannah DeMelo and Ally Prisock were named to the preseason MAC Hermann Trophy watch list announced by the Missouri Athletic Club today.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year. This year's winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis. A total of 45 players were named to the preseason watch list on the women's side.
Prisock, a senior defender for the Trojans, was also named to the watch list last season on her way to earning All Pac-12 first team and Top Drawer Soccer Best XI honors. Prisock started all 20 games for USC in 2017, anchoring a back line that allowed just 0.85 goals per game and posted eight shutouts. During her three years at Troy thus far, Prisock has started every game for the Trojans, helping the team to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances and an NCAA Title in 2016.
DeMelo had a breakout year as a redshirt freshman for the Trojans in 2017, also earning All Pac-12 first team and Top Drawer Soccer Best XI honors alongside Prisock. She finished the year third on the team with 13 points, tallying four goals and five assists out of the midfield. DeMelo is currently starring on the United States U-20 National Team at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, posting a hat trick in a win over Paraguay this morning. The USC sophomore has made 38 caps for the U.S. U-20 squad.
USC starts the regular season next week on Aug. 16 when they travel to UC Irvine for a 7 p.m. matchup. The Trojans get their first taste of action on the pitch this Saturday when they take on UC Davis in a road exhibition.
