The Trojans held practice at the Coliseum on Thursday for the first time this fall.
- Full injury report, per USC head coach Clay Helton: DL Jacob Lichtenstein (calf), LB Levi Jones (ankle), LB Palaie Gaoteote (knee), WR Jake Russell (hamstring), LB John Houston Jr. (knee), WR Michael Pittman Jr. (AC sprain).
- The Trojans worked largely on the passing game today to get a feel for the Coliseum as opposed to the practice field.
- Helton was happy to be back in the Coliseum, which is currently undergoing a major renovation. "With it going down to 77,000 [seats], this will be a hard ticket to get," Helton said. "I think it's going to be an unbelievable experience, not only for our players, but for our fans. She's already special, and with this upgrade, I can't wait to play in it. It's such a special place for us."
- Helton noted that while freshmen traditionally go into their first practice at the Coliseum wide-eyed and intimidated, rookie WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (pictured) looked extremely comfortable, making one beautiful touchdown catch and nearly snagging another. "Amon-Ra walked in here and looked like he's played here for 10 years," Helton said. "He reminds me of [Robert Woods], how he stepped on the scene and was just ready to play."
- St. Brown hauled in a long TD from redshirt freshman QB Jack Sears, who has impressed USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin over the last few days. "He's asking the right questions and giving good feedback," Martin said. "He's made some really good throws. Obviously, guys aren't going to be perfect ever, but he's managing well."
- Martin insisted that it's too early to rank the three quarterbacks competing for the starting role, but he's looking forward to Saturday's scrimmage to see how they fare.
- USC RB Stephen Carr said that all three quarterbacks have been equally accurate on their passes to him throughout camp so far.
- Carr is making his way back from a back injury he described as "tricky." He said he pays extra attention to his form in the weight room and stretching in order to stay healthy. "When I'm on the field, I try not to think about it," he said. "Because I feel like if you play thinking about your injury, that's just going to make you timid."
- The Trojans will be back in the Coliseum on Saturday, when they'll scrimmage for the equivalent of one half of a game.
