The Trojans practiced in the Coliseum for the first time this Fall Camp.
To close out the first full week of practice, USC executed its first full scrimmage of Fall Camp in the Coliseum.
- Here is the injury report from the scrimmage, per head coach Clay Helton: DL Caleb Tremblay (stinger) and WR Josh Imatorbhebhe (ankle sprain).
- Today's scrimmage was the biggest test to date for the three starting quarterback candidates, and they passed it with flying colors. "I am very pleased walking off the field," Helton said. "All of them made unbelievable throws at some point in the scrimmage."
- While Helton was quick to hit the brakes on anointing any of the quarterbacks, true freshman JT Daniels clearly impressed all in attendance, throwing 4 TD passes without an interception. "I thought JT, for the first time in a live game situation, looked very comfortable," Helton said. "I like the way he distributed the ball."
- Daniels has only been on campus since the summer, but he's in the thick of the quarterback race. "You can see the investment that he has made," Helton said about the teenager learning the offense.
- While Helton tempered expectations around Daniels, he could not control his enthusiasm talking about another true freshman, WR Amon-Ra St. Brown. "Ooh, mercy. What a nice day he had today," the head coach said. St. Brown made several difficult catches en route to a three touchdown afternoon.
- On the defensive side of the ball, DL Jay Tufele continues to be a standout. Helton said that the RS freshman has had maybe "the best camp of anybody." He was all over the quarterbacks again today. "He has really stepped up his game."
- The pass rush was also aided by the speed of OLB Hunter Echols. The RS freshman is taking advantage of increased opportunities with OLB Porter Gustin out injured.
- The Trojans will have Sunday off before another full week of Fall Camp begins on Monday.
