LOS ANGELES – USC Women's Soccer Head Coach Keidane McAlpine announced the promotion of Jason Lockhart to associate head coach for the program. Lockhart has been an assistant coach with the Trojans since McAlpine came to USC in late 2013.
"I'm really happy to announce Jason as our associate head coach," said McAlpine. "He and I have been working together at the collegiate level for six years now, but we really have a lifetime of knowing each other after growing up together in Alabama and then coaching together at the club and collegiate levels. Jason is one of the best communicators in college sports, in terms of training and teaching players, and continues to be a great asset to our program. This is a well-deserved promotion for him and I look forward to continuing the standard of excellence we have established together already."
Working together, Lockhart and McAlpine have guided their teams to the NCAA postseason each of the last six years, including the last four with USC and two prior to that at Washington State. Lockhart helped lead the Trojans to the program's second NCAA Championship in 2016. In his four years with USC, the Trojans have won at least 12 games each season, amassing a 61-19-9 record and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament twice.
"I want to thank Keidane for not only this title change, but the opportunity to continue working alongside him at such a prestigious university," said Lockhart. "We have had an amazing run so far and I look forward to continuing that success well into the future. It's really an honor to work with one of the best staffs in college soccer."
At Washington State, with Lockhart on staff, the Cougars tied the program record for victories with a 14-3-4 mark in 2013, while the team and players set or tied 27 school records. The Cougars finished the season ranked No. 7 in the nation defensively with only 11 goals allowed. In 2012, the Cougars went 6-4-1 in Pac-12 play and finished up 12-6-2 overall.
Prior to his collegiate coaching career, Lockhart coached at the club level with a number of clubs, including Vestavia Soccer Club and most recently Birmingham United Soccer Association, progressing through the ranks and coaching at all levels. At Birmingham United he was a girls director of coaching and ECNL head coach, where he lead numerous state championship teams, one regional championship squad, and a third-place finish in the 2009 National Championship Series. In recent years he has also been a member of the Region III ODP staff and a head age group coach for girls ages 14-18.
