Slow Start For Trojans In NCAA Pacific Regional First Round

Jin even, Suh 1-over as USC sits 12th after 18 holes.
Sophomore Cheng Jin carded an even 72 while junior Justin Suh finished at 1-over 73 as No. 19 USC found itself with a hill to climb after the first round of the NCAA Pacific Regional at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, Calif., on Monday (May 14).
The Trojans are in 12th after 18 holes at 7-over 295, 17 off the lead Iowa State raced to and 10 back of fifth-place Stanford. Only the top 5 teams from each of the six NCAA regionals will advance to the NCAA Championship finals in Stillwater, Okla., on May 25.
Pac-12 champion USC, looking to make its 12th straight trip to the NCAA final event, was led by Jin's 72 which included a 2-under back 9. He is tied for 27th.
Suh, coming off his fifth title at the Pac-12 Championships, is tied for 36th at 1-over 73 with two birdies today.
Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Kaito Onishi is tied for 44th at 2-over 74 after a two-birdie day. Freshman Issei Tanabe is tied for 65th at 4-over 76 while sophomore Kyle Suppa is tied for 68th at 5-over 77.
