Lopes to compete at Sam Adams Combined Events in Santa Barbara
The Trojans will send the majority of the team to the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ari. from April 6-7, while Lyndsey Lopes will compete at the Sam Adams Combined Events in Santa Barbara, Calif. on April 6-7. Entering this week, the USC women's team is ranked No. 4 and the men's team No. 5.
TRAVELING TROJANS - USC athletes traveling and expected to compete this week at the Sun Angel Classic are: Men: Alexander Barnum, T.J. Brock, Nathan Bultman, Robert Ford, Michael Gonzalez, Jason Kim, Ricky Morgan Jr., Matthew Myrtue, Micahel Norman, Nick Ponzio, Cameron Samuel, Earnest Sears, Dominic Smallwood and Christian Sourapas. LOPES TO COMPETE AT SAM ADAMS COMBINED EVENTS - USC junior Lyndsey Lopes will compete in the heptathlon at the Sam Adams Combined Events in Santa Barbara, Calif. on April 6-7. Lopes will be competing in her first heptathlon of the season. She owns a personal best of 5,371 points, which ranks eighth on USC's all-time list. Lopes placed third in the heptathlon at the 2017 Pac-12 Championships.
JEMISON SETS USC SHOT PUT RECORD AT CALIFORNIA COLLEGIATE - Breana Jemison set the USC women's shot put record, Nick Ponzio won the men's shot put and Cassidy Palka won the women's high jump to lead the Trojans at the California Collegiate Invitational in La Jolla, Calif. on March. 31. Jemison led wire-to-wire in the women's shot put, opening with a mark of 51-8.25/15.75m to take the lead and closing with a school-record mark of 57-7.75/17.57m. Jemison broke the school record of 57-7.50/17.56m set by Karen Freberg in 2006. Jemison had three throws in her series of over 55-5. Ponzio won the men's shot put with a best mark of 59-9.50/18.22m. After a foul in the first round, he took the lead with his second throw and never was challenged the rest of the way. Palka won the women's high jump with a clearance of 5-6.00/1.68m. She was clean through that height and went out at 5-8.00/1.73m.
USC'S RETURNING OUTDOOR ALL-AMERICANS - USC has five returning women's outdoor All-Americans in Anna Cockrell (100m H, 400m H), Kendall Ellis (400m, 4x400m), Dior Hall (100m H), Deanna Hill (200m, 4x400m), Ky Westbrook (100m). The Trojans have four returning men's outdoor All-Americans in Marquis Morris (110m H), Michael Norman (400m), Nick Ponzio (SP) and Eric Sloan (LJ).
WHO'S NEW ON THE 2018 TROJANS - There are 13 new women's athletes on this season's outdoor roster: Angie Annelus (sprints), Julia Bounds (distances), Chanel Brissett (hurdles), Jennifer Daly (distances), Mackenzie Ellison (distances), Breana Jemison (throws), Cassidy Palka (HJ), Kaelin Roberts (sprints), Shante Robinson (sprints/hurdles), Natasha Stamp (throws), Twanisha "TeeTee" Terry (sprints) and Sydney Tullai (distances). There are 8 new athletes on the men's roster: Rai Benjamin (hurdles/sprints), Cameron Collins (multis), David Hulme (distances), Jaydon Logan (hurdles/sprints), Nick Moore (sprints), Cameron Samuel (hurdles/sprints), Earnest Sears (jumps) and Zach Shinnick (sprints).

12 TROJANS NAMED MPSF ALL-ACADEMIC - Eight Trojan women and four USC men athletes were named 2018 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) All-Academic Scholar-Athletes for the indoor track and field season it was announced on April 4. USC's athletes earning MPSF All-Academic honors are sophomore sprinter T.J. Brock, sophomore hurdler/sprinter Anna Cockrell, sophomore jumper Courtney Corrin, senior sprinter Kendall Ellis, junior distance runner Amber Gore, junior jumper Alexa Harmon-Thomas, senior sprinter Deanna Hill, junior jumper Margaux Jones, junior thrower Matthew Katnik, sophomore sprinter Michael Norman, senior thrower Nick Ponzio, and senior jumper Madisen Richards (Simi Valley, Calif.).
ON DECK: TRITON INVITATIONAL - USC will be competing at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Calif. on April 13-14.
