Ducks Even Series With 9-2 Win
April 28, 2018 | Baseball, Features
EUGENE, Ore. – The USC baseball team fell 9-2 at Oregon on Saturday evening to even the series at a win a piece between the teams.
The loss drops the Trojans to 19-20 on the year and 7-13 in Pac-12 play, while Oregon improves to 20-20 overall and 7-13 in conference action.
The Ducks scored an unearned run in the first after a passed ball and then wild pitch, then would take an early 2-0 lead in the second thanks to a bases-loaded walk. USC, which had been stymied by Oregon starter Kenyon Yovan for the first three innings, broke through in the fourth, getting an RBI triple from Dillon Paulson and then game-tying sacrifice fly from Stephen Dubb.
Oregon went back ahead in the bottom half of the fourth on a sacrifice fly, before a rain delay stopped play for about 20 minutes. After the stoppage Oregon would add four more runs to go up 7-2. All five runs scored in the fourth were unearned after an early USC error extended the inning. The Ducks added runs in the sixth and seventh to run away with it.
Oregon got a brilliant 8.0 innings from Yovan on the mound, with the righty striking out 15 batters and giving up just two runs and five hits.
