Cheng Jin Leads USC During First Round At The Goodwin

USC in 23rd after 13-over first round.
Sophomore Cheng Jin carded a 2-over 73 to lead the No. 15 USC men's golf team on the first day of The Goodwin at Harding Park in San Francisco on Thursday (March 29).
The Trojans finished at a combined 13-over 297, in 23rd. Host Stanford led the field at 7-under 277 while Northwestern finished at 6-under and Oklahoma and Oregon tied at 5-under in the 26-team field.
Jin led the Trojans Thursday, his 73 tied for 61st overall. He had three birdies on the day and was even on his front 9. Freshman Kaito Onishi is tied for 75th at 3-over 74 and also had three birdies.
Junior Justin Suh, sophomore Kyle Suppa (who is playing individually) and freshman Issei Tanabe are tied for 89th at 4-over 75. This is only Suh's second round in 21 this year where he failed to finish par or better. He was even through 14 before finishing the final four holes at 4-over.
Sophomore Ryan Slater is tied for 119th after a 7-over 78.
The Trojans will tee off Friday beginning at 7:30 a.m., paired with Arizona State and UNLV.
