Relays Lead USC On Second Day Of NCAA Championships

Trojans in 17th after first full day of racing.
USC, led by sophomore Louise Hansson's top splits, turned in a pair of top 4 B final finishes on the first full day of swimming at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in Columbus, Ohio.
The Trojans finished the second day of the NCAAs with 30 points, in 17th place.
USC's 200y free relay of Hansson, freshman Marta Ciesla and sophomores Tatum Wade and Catherine Sanchez finished a season-best 1:28.35 to take 11th, third in the B final, shaving off 0.14 from the prelim swim that took 13th.
Hansson led off with a 21.98 after a 21.69 in prelims that was just 0.06 off of USC's school record in the 50 free.
The Trojans were fourth in the B final of the 400y medley relay, 12th overall, as senior Hannah Weiss, junior Riley Scott, Hansson and Ciesla posted a 3:31.39, dropping 0.18 off the prelim time. Hansson's fly leg of 49.24 was more than a second faster than the next fastest in either the A or B final heats and helped move USC to from eighth to second during the race.
Sophomore Becca Mann was 40th in the 500y free (4:43.57) while junior Elizabeth Stinson was 58th (4:46.36). Wade was 51st in the 200y IM (1:59.75) and Scott was 57th (2:00.40).
Ciesla just missed a second swim in the 50y free, finishing 18th in 22.26, 0.05 back of 16th place. Sanchez was 53rd with a PR 22.90.
Friday's prelims start at 6 a.m. PT with finals at 2 p.m.
