Trojans Have A Strong First Day At MPSF Championships

Ellis wins her second consecutive 200m title
Kendall Ellis won the women's 200m, Margaux Jones placed second in the women's long jump, Eric Sloan placed third in the men's long jump, Nick Moore placed fifth in the men's 200m and Lyndsey Lopes placed fourth in the pentathlon to key a strong first day by USC's track and field team at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championships held at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash today (Feb. 23). In addition, eight women and five men advanced to finals tomorrow. After the first day, USC's women have scored 49 points and are in first place, while the men scored 11 points and are tied for 8th place.
- Kendall Ellis won her second consecutive MPSF women's 200m title, today winning with a time of 23.36. Angie Annelus was second with a time of 23.39, TeeTee Terry was fifth with a time of 23.51, Anna Cockrell sixth at 23.57 and Shante Robinson 19th at 24.77. Together they earned USC 25 points in the team competition.
- Nick Moore had a PR of 21.80 to win his heat and place fifth in the men's 200m dash. He earned USC four team points.
- Jones placed second in the women's long jump with a jump of 19-11.75 (6.09m) to earn eight points. Courtney Corrin placed third with a leap of 19-11.50 (6.08m) to earn six points, while Madisen Richards took fourth with an indoor PR of 19-9.75 (6.04m) to earn five points. Alexa Harmon-Thomas took 12th with a PR of 18-6.00 (5.64m).
- Eric Sloan placed third in the men's long jump with a best jump of 24-5.75 (7.46m). Dominic Smallwood placed eighth with a best jump of 23-10.75 (7.28m). The pair earned USC seven points.
- Lopes placed fourth in the pentathlon with a PR of 3,978 points to earn USC five points. She topped her previous best pentathlon score by 57 points, bettering her second-place standing on the USC all-time list. Lopes won the 60m hurdles with a PR of 8.51 to earn 1,015 points. She then tied for third in the high jump with a PR of 5-8.50 (1.74m) to earn another 903 points. She also moved to second on USC's all-time list in the event. Next was the shot put in which she finished 12th with a throw of 33-5.75 (10.20m) to earn 543 points, which dropped her to second place. Lopes then took third in the long jump with a leap of 18-4.50 (5.59m) to place third in the event to earn 726 points. She closed out the meet by running a PR of 2:22.38 in the 800m race to finish sixth and earn 791 points.
- Dior Hall ran 8.09, Anna Cockrell 8.18 and Chanel Brissett 8.31 in the women's 60m hurdles prelims to qualify first-third respectively for the final tomorrow. Shante Robinson had a time of 8.58 to finish 10th overall.
- Marquis Morris won his heat and was third overall in the men's 60m hurdles prelims with a time of 7.95 to qualify for the final tomorrow.
- Deanna Hill led five Trojans into the women's 60m final tomorrow. Hill won the 60m prelims with a time of 7,30, Terry was second at 7.32, Annelus was third at 7.33, Ky Westbrook was fifth at 7.37 and Zaria Francis was seventh at 7.44.
- Alexander Barnum (6.74) and T.J. Brock (6.76) went 1-2 in the men's 60m prelims to advance to the final tomorrow. Moore had a time of 6.91 to finish ninth, one spot out of advancing.
