No. 5 USC Moves To Fourth After 36 Holes At Poppy Hills

Trojans' 8-under second-round tied for best of the day.
Junior Kyle Suppa, sophomore Issei Tanabe and freshman Charlie Reiter all fired 3-under 68s on Tuesday (Nov. 6) at Poppy Hills G.C. in Pebble Beach, Calif., leading six Trojans who carded par or better rounds to lead No. 5 USC into fourth after 36 holes.
USC tied Oregon for low round of the day at 8-under and now sit at a combined for a 2-under 566 (290-276). BYU, which built a big first-round lead, remains in front at 19-under with Pepperdine second at 5-under and Arizona third, a shot ahead of USC.
Tanabe pocketed his fourth round under 70 in eight outings and is now tied for eighth at 2-under 140 (72-68). He had seven birdies on the day, including five during a 3-under front.
Suppa, who had a strong first round derailed by a tough finish on Monday, came through with his second round in the 60s this season and is now tied for 11th at 1-under 141 (73-68). He was 3-under going out, 1-under coming in, looking for his second straight top 11.
Junior Cheng Jin (72-70) and Reiter (74-68), who is playing individually, are tied for 19th at par 142. Jin birdied four times Tuesday, Reiter five against just one double bogey.
Sophomore Kaito Onishi is tied for 29th at 2-over 144 (73-71) and senior Justin Suh, in an unusual role for him, is bringing up the rear for the Trojans, tied for 36th at 3-over 145 (75-70) despite his 1-under round today.
