USC Has Strong Start To Indoor Season At The Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational

USC's women claimed the first five places in the 200m race, Robert Ford took second in the men's 600m, Eric Sloan finished second in the men's long jump and Margaux Jones was second in the women's long jump to highlight USC's efforts at the Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque N.M. today (Jan. 19).
Kendall Ellis won the first section and was first overall in the women's 200m race with a time of 23.29. Second in the heat and overall in the 200m was Anna Cockrell at 23.38, which moved her into sixth on USC's all-time indoor list in the event. Ky Westbrook was third in the heat and overall with a time of 23.59. Twanisha "TeeTee" Terry opened her USC career by winning her 200m section and placing fourth overall with a time of 23.64. Kyra Constantine had a PR of 23.79 to win her section and place fifth overall. Lyndsey Lopes won her section and was 12th overall with a PR of 24.65. Nick Moore was the only USC male to compete in the 200m race and he won his section and placed 16th overall with a time of 21.92. That time moves him to 10th on USC's men's indoor 200m list.
Ford placed second in his heat and was second overall with a time of 1:18.51 in the men's 600m race. Ricky Morgan Jr. was fourth in the same heat and sixth overall with a PR of 1:19.07 and Alex Rohani was fifth in the same heat and seventh overall with a time of 1:19.16. Jennifer Daly was the only Trojan to compete in the women's 600m race and she took sixth in her heat and 15th overall with a time of 1:40.06.
Sloan had a strong season-opening long jump of 25-7.25/7.80m to take second in the men's event, the top jump by a collegian. Dominic Smallwood placed fifth, second-best by a collegian, with a jump of 24-00.25/7.32m. Cameron Collins finished 22nd overall in the long jump with a leap of 21-5.50/6.54m.
Jones took second in the women's long jump with the top mark by a collegian at the meet of 20-8.00/6.30m. Courtney Corrin finished seventh in the women's long jump with a leap of 19-6.75/5.96m, Madisen Richards was 10th with a jump of 19-1.25/5.82m and Lopes was 13th with a PR of 18-9.75/5.73m. Alexa Harmon-Thomas had three fouls.
Randall Cunningham tied for third in the men's high jump with a clearance of 6-9.50/2.07m and Earnest Sears III tied for sixth by jumping 6-7.50/2.02m. Cassidy Palka had the top jump in the first flight of the women's high jump of 5-5.25/1.66m to finish seventh overall. Her jump moved her into ninth place on the USC women's all-time indoor high jump list.
