Trojans will represent the USA at the 2018 CONCACAF U-20 Championship in Trinidad and Tobago.
After one season of work with the USC women's soccer team, two young Trojans have been named to the U.S. Under-20 National Team roster for competition at the 2018 CONCACAF U-20 Championships. Freshmen Savannah DeMelo and Tara McKeown both provided four goals and five assists apiece for USC this past season. Now, the Trojan teammates team up again for a trip to Trinidad and Tobago this month with Team USA.
In their debut seasons at USC, DeMelo and McKeown were fixtures in the starting lineup for the Trojans, who reached the NCAA Second Round. In addition to providing 13 points each, the two Trojans combined for four game-winning goals. DeMelo, who was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team had one, and McKeown — a Pac-12 All-Freshman Team honoree — recorded three game-winners on just eight shots on goal.Â
Both Trojans have already logged plenty of time as U.S. U-20 players. DeMelo has 23 caps to her name with the USA squad, and McKeown has 11. DeMelo also competed at the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship and went on to compete in the 2016 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The 2018 CONCACAF U-20 Championships offer a chance for three teams to qualify for the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. The USA is grouped with Nicaragua, Jamaica and Mexico in Group B, with matches set for Jan. 19, 21 and 23, respectively. For more information, visit ussoccer.com.
