With just under a month to go until the 2017 USC football season starts, the Trojans learned they were ranked No. 4 in the preseason Amway Coaches Poll.
USC is the highest-ranked team in the Pac-12, sitting only behind No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Florida State in the ranking, which came out this morning. Washington is the only other Pac-12 school in the Top 10, at No. 7.
Last year, USC entered the season ranked No. 17 in the Coaches Poll before going 10-3 with a stunning comeback victory in the Rose Bowl Game. The Trojans return star QB Sam Darnold and other weapons on offense like RB Ronald Jones II and WR Deontay Burnett, as well as a stacked defense featuring Butkus Award candidates Porter Gustin, Uchenna Nwosu and Cameron Smith, and Thorpe Award candidate Iman Marshall.
USC also welcomes in a crop of fresh faces that are ready to compete. DT Marlon Tuipulotu and OT Andrew Vorhees, who both enrolled this spring, have earned praise from USC head coach Clay Helton, as have WR Joseph Lewis IV, DL Brandon Pili and DL Jay Tufele.
