Euro Trip 2017: Trojans’ Summer Splashdown

Video blogs and photos from USC men’s water polo’s summer tour of Europe! #poloandpassports
USC men's water polo's summer adventures saw the Trojans soak up some serious sun while splashing down in seas, pools and rivers across France, Italy, Croatia and Montenegro for three weeks in July. The Trojans set up camp in Nice (France), Recco (Italy), Split (Croatia) and Herceg Novi (Montenegro) while scrimmaging local teams and training for the upcoming 2017 season back in the USA.
Boats were the preferred mode of transport throughout — all the easier to jump out for a swim when things got too toasty — but trains were the name of the game in Italy. There, the Trojans zipped from their home base in Recco to nearby Bogliasco for some pool time, to Santa Margherita for some beach time, and to Genoa for some city time.
The first stop of the trip, though, was France, where there was no water polo on the docket but there was time to hit the beach and enjoy the gorgeous (but chilly) waters of the Cote d'Azur. A bus ride to Italy brought more great food, great views and great team bonding, and then it was time to load up for the first major boat ride of the trip. USC boarded an overnight ferry from Italy to Croatia, squeezing into bunks for some sleep before the ferry pulled into Split at sunrise.
Time in Split as spent with more sun-soaking, more time logged in the pool, a day of river rafting, and a chance to experience the beautiful ancient city. From Split, the Trojans headed southward, spending a day in Dubrovnik to explore the old city (King's Landing, to Game of Thrones fans) and seek some thrills by finding then best cliffs to jump from into the refreshing waters of the Adriatic.
Last on the itinerary was Montenegro. The Trojans settled in for a week's stay in the home town of head coach Jovan Vavic and current Trojan Lazar Pasuljevic — the seaside town of Herceg Novi. Between great competition at Herceg Novi's iconic Jadran pool and pools in Kotor and Budva, the Trojans took time to soak in the many amazing sites that were no more than a boat-ride away. From the Blue Caves to Mamula Island to Zelenika beach to Porto Montenegro, the Trojans were able to experience the culture and beauty of Montenegro while coming together as a true Trojan Family.
