Host Two Meets, Including A Historic Power 5 Trailblazer Challenge
"The goal each season is to prepare our student-athletes to challenge for national championships and I believe a big part of that is to compete against the best," said USC Director of Track & Field Caryl Smith Gilbert. "Both the indoor and outdoor schedules will allow us to face some of the most elite talent around the country."
The indoor season begins for the Trojans at the Cherry and Silver Invitational in Alburquerque, NM on January 19-20. USC will have two other regular season indoor meets, the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. on January 26-27 and the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, S.C. on February 9-10, before the MPSF Conference Championships in Seattle, Wash. on February 23-24. The 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships will be held in College Station, Texas from March 9-10.
USC will open up the outdoor track and field season at the CS Los Angeles Invitational on March 2-3 and then will host two consecutive meets. First, USC will be at home for the annual Trojan Invitational on March 16-17. The Trojan Invitational will feature among others, the combined programs from Washington and Iowa, and the women's team from Utah. The meet, as is tradition, also features the Los Angeles City High School Relay Championships.
The Trojans will then host a ground-breaking Power 5 Trailblazer Challenge which will feature Miami, Ohio State, Mississippi and Tennessee. Along with the USC track and field program under the leadership of Caryl Smith Gilbert, these are the only five schools within Power 5 Conferences with a woman leading both the men's and women's teams.
The Trojans will then compete at the California Collegiate in San Diego, Calif. (March 31), the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz. (April 6-7), the Triton Invitational in San Diego, Calif. (April 13-14) and the Mt. SAC Relays in Torrance, Calif. (April 19-21). The annual crosstown rivaly USC-UCLA Dual Meet will be hosted by UCLA on April 29.
The Pac-12 Multi-Event Championships (May 5-6) and the Pac-12 Championships (May 12-13) this year will be hosted by Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif. The NCAA West Preliminary Rounds will be held May 24-26 in Sacramento Calif. and the NCAA Championships will be in Eugene, Ore. from June 6-9.
