
No. 3 Trojans Trounce Golden Bears in 5-0 Sweep

LOS ANGELES -- The No. 3-ranked USC beach volleyball team (11-2) knocked off California (7-5) in a 5-0 sweep to collect its seventh straight dual victory on Tuesday, March 22, at Merle Norman Stadium.
The dual was clinched by juniors Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes who defeated Sarah Cole and Mia Merino, 21-6, 21-10, at the top court to move to 16-0 on the season with their 41st consecutive victory together.
Earlier, USC got its first point from the other end of the lineup where sophomore Jo Kremer and senior Zoe Nightingale put together a 21-6, 21-9 win over Katie Regalia and Emily Shults. One court down, sophomore Jenna Belton and freshman Abril Bustamante earned a 21-13, 21-14 win over Teya Neff and Rachel Wilson to get the Trojans a 2-0 lead.
Claes and Hughes won at No. 1 to seal the dual, but the Trojans got a fourth point from court two as junior Sophie Bukovec and senior Alexa Strange combined for a 21-11, 21-12 win over Bryce Bark and Kory Lamet. The Women of Troy wrapped up the 5-0 sweep from court three when juniors Nicolette Martin and Allie Wheeler dispatched of Grace Campbell and Olivia Rodberg, 21-14, 21-12.
The Trojans now go nine days between matches and will resume action on the sands of South Beach in Miami, Fla., when they take part in the Florida International Surf and Turf Challenge on April 1-2. The Women of Troy will face Georgia State, South Carolina, Tulane, Florida Atlantic, Stetson, and host Florida International over two days of play. USC's final regular-season home match will be against Pepperdine on Thursday, April 14.
