Amanda Longan Grabs Back-to-Back MPSF Newcomer of the Week Honors
February 23, 2016 | Women's Water Polo
USC freshman goalie Amanda Longan has received her second straight selection as MPSF Newcomer of the Week after another strong stand in the cage for the Trojans.
Longan set an early career high for herself in collecting 13 saves in just three periods of work last weekend. Longan's big performance in the cage anchored the top-ranked Trojans for a 15-3 win over No. 25 Cal State Northridge, as the Matadors only managed three scores against the freshman. In five appearances this season to date, Longan now averages 8.9 saves and just 3.7 goals-against per game.
The nonconference win kept USC undefeated on the year at 7-0. Longan and the Women of Troy now turn to action at the UCI Invitational this weekend, Feb. 27-28, in Irvine.
